Snow on Lundy is a very rare phenomena witnessed maybe two or three times in the last hundred years (although increasing in frequency). In November 2005 I was lucky enough to witness this spectacle for myself, and even luckier in that it necessitated an extra night on the island, as the helicopter was unable to fly! Although I felt desperately sorry for those stuck over on the mainland, it was certainly an interesting day for me.
The morning was spent sitting in the Tavern watching the sky become darker and darker until the snow began to fall. Within an hour or so the whole island was covered in a thick white blanket.
Unfortunately I did not take my own camera on that trip (something I have been kicking myself for ever since).
The following photographs then were taken by Michael Baker and are reproduced with permission and thanks.
